Last Friday evening I spent some time after work at the Downtown New Bern Artwork. The second Friday each month through November has downtown businesses and restaurants staying open for receptions, demonstrations, special events, and more. And, of course, there is the work of plenty from local artists on display and for purchase as well!
It was a bit chilly during my sidewalk strolls so I imagine my future visits to the Artwalk will be somewhat more adventurous. My first stop was at Next Chapter Books & Art on South Front Street where owner Michelle Garren Frye was very welcoming and shared plenty of information on the Artwalk as well as her business. The Next Chapter is a home to many local author and artist works as well as used books of all sorts, many of which I’m sure my kids will be interested in when we stop by sometime in the near future.
Michelle also provided me with a map of the Artwalk participants which I used in order to locate my next visit, The Black Cat Shoppe on Middle Street. There I enjoyed the Art Of Mayte Raminez, who was there to offer her creations and explain how she utilizes what she does. The Black Cat is also a fine place to spend some time downtown.
As always, there is plenty to do and see during the Artwalk, of which I included a few photos below. Next month’s Artwalk, which is free, will happen Friday, February 5th from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. For more information on the Downtown New Bern Arwalk, visit https://www.cravenarts.org/ or call 252-638-2577.
