I was honored to join Jeff and Sabrina, the owners of Skin Elixer Tattoo & Piercing in Jacksonville, at their Breast Cancer Awareness Event. Sabrina, an amazing tattoo artist, committed her entire day and night to knocking out a variety of tattoos for just $40 with half that going to charity to help one woman in need with reconstructive surgery after a mastectomy.
She had a variety of Breast Cancer tattoos to choose from. Sister-In-Laws each got one in honor of one’s profession and one’s completion of radiation treatments. Beautiful!
You may have heard me talk about the one tattoo I have thanks to a dare from my son. I LOVE tattoos, but I’m a wimp when it comes to needles…and pain! But…I did it…I got my tattoo at Skin Elixer! I chose a Halloween themed tattoo that was being offered…again with half the proceeds going to charity. So I did this one for a great cause. And I did this one because I loved Sabrina’s little fish design and I couldn’t talk anyone into getting it! Sabrina’s lines in the tattoo are amazing, she was great about calming my crazy jitters and gentle with that needle! Now I have two little tattoos and each has a whole lot of meaning to me.
The statistics on Breast Cancer are heartbreaking. About 1 in 8 U.S. women (about 13%) will develop invasive breast cancer over the course of her lifetime. About 43,600 women in the U.S. are expected to die in 2021 from breast cancer. Studies show that breast cancer screening with mammography saves lives. It doesn’t help prevent cancer, but it can help find cancer early when it’s most treatable. For most women, regular mammograms can begin at age 40, but specific recommendations vary by age and risk. Please, talk to your doctor about your family history and follow recommendations for early detection of breast cancer.
And remember, every little thing we do to find a cure or support a woman has meaning. Including little tattoos with big meaning! Thank you to Jeff and Sabrina with Skin Elixer for committing their time and talent to the fight!
