“Our mission is to fill unmet needs as it relates to nutrition, education, and connection to the citizens of Jones County.”
While their goals can be summarized using just three words, the outcome that has been provided by this group of mainly volunteers continues to be so much more. My introduction to Filling Station was shortly following Hurricane Florence in 2018 when V1033 helped them provide assistance to those who had suffered because of the natual disaster. Since then, they have continued to grow and have provided so much for so many people.
When I was there I observed them providing food packets to the needy which happens every Tuesday and Thursday mornings. Other programs include disaster relief, Community Boxes For Seniors, basic computer classes through Lenoir Community College, and a partnership with The New Bern Anateur Radio Club. Occuring the week the Filling Station they were hosting an art and dance event for kids and also a visit from members of the NC Symphony!
Thank you to Executive Director Mary Ann LeRay for all she shared about Filling Station – I hope to bring you more information about what to expect from this wonderful organization in the near future and how you may be able to partiicpate!
