Just One Reason We Love Eastern North Carolina: Ocracoke

If you’ve never been to Ocracoke, you MUST!  Hop the Swan Quarter or Cedar Island ferry for just $15.00 per car or take the free ferry from Hatteras to Ocracoke and spend some time on one of the most amazing gems on the East Coast!

We took a long weekend and enjoyed sunsets like this:

And don’t miss a trip to Portsmouth Island.  We hopped a ride with Portsmouth Island Tours.  They took us to the now abandoned village first.

And then to a beach to hunt for shells! Scotch Bonnets were our favorite find!

And throughout our chill vacay just a hop, skip and a jump from home, we rode bikes all over Ocracoke, hiked the trails, chilled on the beach and wet some fishing lines!  There’s plenty to see and enjoy and some quaint stores for that shopping addiction or souvenirs!  Oh…and don’t miss the Ocracoke Preservation Society Museum….housed in an old home, the museum is full of local history, including remnants of local shipwrecks, examples of the shells that can be found in the area, and stories of life on Ocracoke which are fascinating!
