Is there an actual age we hit that makes us an adult? I (Brooks) am 31, have a child, a career and a fiance, does that make me an adult?
Is being an adult defined by age or events in your life that make you grow up?
A survey was done by YouGov, they surveyed 1,700 people. When they asked them “at what age did you feel like an adult,” the number one answer was “I don’t feel grown-up yet.” The most common ages were 18, 20, 21, 25, and 30.
Here are some accomplishments in life that made people feel like an adult….
- Having kids.
- Getting married.
- Moving out of your parents house.
- Owning a home.
Let’s be honest, what does that phrase even mean, “feel like an adult?” I feel like an adult every time I have to pay bills… I feel like an adult every time I go to the grocery store… I mean the list goes on and on.
I use to walk home from school every day, it started when I was in 5th grade. I know at that age you are not an adult but I sure felt like one. Coming home alone, watching whatever I wanted on the tv, fixing myself food… But nothing made me grow up more than having a baby.
I will put it like this, I do grown up things like pay bills, work, care for my daughter. But at the end of the day I’m just a big kid in an adult body.
I guess if I had to pick an age, 30, 30 is when I became an adult.
