V103.3 Be Kind Initiative Kickoff!

This week marks the beginning of the “V103.3 Be Kind Initiative”, the goal of which will focus on non-profit organizations across ENC so you can learn of the great things they do in your community and how you may be able to reach out to help!

My first visit was to the Food Bank of Eastern and Central North Carolina’s (CENC) location in New Bern where I spoke with Angel Ray, the operations supervisor. She told me of the CENC’s Summer Hunger program, during which the food bank is extremely busy assisting those who face more food expenses for their children while school is out along with higher summer utility expenses.

Angel also explained how grateful the food bank is for the volunteers who donate their time and physical efforts weekly in the warehouse. I gave an hour of such assistance while I was there; despite working for a short period of time, my body certainly felt it during the rest of the day!

Another way to contribute is by involving people you know in your neighborhood, your family, or your church. Set up a virtual food drive so that you may recognize social distancing. Then share your experience on social media and tag the food bank so more viewers are aware of what you’re doing!

Monetary donations are certainly welcome, as well – it is the most appreciated of the gifts you may be able to give as it goes directly towards the cost of food that people need to eat!
There are so many other ways you can help and it’s easy to get started lending a hand – contact the food bank using the following information and help them meet the increased needs across ENC!
