KENANSVILLE, Duplin County — Stop.
Pause.
Think.
Hang up.
That’s the advice of the Duplin County Sheriff’s Office after another round of scam calls.
The latest one, they say, involves a caller telling the potential victim that they’re a detective with the office and claiming that they need to “register” their credit cards with the detective for security purposes.
Like many other similar calls, they say this, too, is a scam.
Their advice:
- Do not give any credit card information over the phone.
- Do not give any personal information to anyone calling and offering any services.
- Continue to be aware of other scams as well to include but limited to the Internal Revenue Service, COVID – 19 assistance or inheritance money awarded.
- Call your local authorities to report any suspicious activities.
